Intel release Core i9-9980XE processor

Finally available

It looks like Intel has silently released their Core i9-9980XE. This particular chip features 18 cores and 36 threads, and it’s been combined with 24.75 MB of L3 cache. This CPU is supposed to make the life of the AMD Threadripper 2950X CPU a bit harder.

The addition of the Core i9-9980XE doesn't come as a surprise, as it was pretty predictable that Intel was planning this flagship CPU in response to AMD's Ryzen Threadripper processors. Compared to the previous model, the base clock is substantially higher (400MHz) and also the boost clock has seen an increase.

The Core i9-9980XE is going to ship with a price tag of $1'979 US. Compared to the $899 US AMD's Ryzen Threadripper 2950X is setting you back, the price of the Intel chip is very hard to justify although the Intel flagship features 18 cores and 36 threads.

Following you we've compiled the specs of all the latest Core i7 and Core i9 HEDT chips from Intel.
